Sergeant Behind Police Football Team Honoured

A NORTH Wales Police sergeant and North Wales-educated actress Anne Reid, who starred in Coronation Street, are honoured in the New Year's Honours list.

Anne has become a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for her services to drama.

More than 1,200 people from across the UK received honours in the latest list. Among them is Flintshire North Local Policing Sergeant Dave Smith, based in Deeside. He has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the community in North Wales, and to charity.

Sgt Smith, 38, who lives inBroughton, Flintshire with his family, has spent 15 years in policing. He founded Wrexham Police FC in early 2022 with the intention of building cohesion between the police and the communities they serve, whilst raising money for local charities by off duty officers playing matches against a variety of opponents.
