Police watchdog is 'assessing' after double fatal crash

THE policing watchdog has issued a statement after two men were killed in a crash on the A487 Porthmadog bypass on Saturday evening (December 20).

They have been named as Mathew Hardy, 34, from Pwllheli, and Daniel Atkinson, 40, of Blaenau Ffestiniog.

North Wales Police said both men died at the scene of the crash, which involved an Isuzu recovery truck and a VW Golf, shortly before 9.30pm. The force appealed for witnesses, and also confirmed it had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct [IOPC].

On Monday, the IOPC issued a statement, which said: “We have received a referral from North Wales Police in relation to this incident and we are now carrying out an assessment to decide what further action may be required by us.”
