A KEY link has reopened on a classic walking and cycling path in Gwynedd. The 11-mile Lon Las Ogwen trail runs from historic Porth Penrhyn before opening up to dramatic views of the Eryri mountains.
En route is the 272-metre Pendinas Tunnel and Penrhyn slate quarry, once the world's largest. Following an old railway track bed, the path crosses viaducts, passes through scenic woodlands and goes under the A55.
An initial section through Afon Cegin valley, called Lon Bach, opened in the 1980s. It was extended in 2017 following restoration of Pendinas Tunnel and is now being upgraded by Cyngor Gwynedd as part of the Llewyrch o'r Llechi cultural investment programme.
