One of the WETTEST Welsh autumns ever

WALES suffered its 10th wettest autumn since records began in 1836, according to Met Office data. The deluge continued through November with 224.4mm of rain, 59% above the expected monthly total.

- By ANDREW FORGRAVE

Overall, autumn in Wales was mild, wet and duller than normal, said the Met Office.

In many areas the rain was much needed following below-average rainfall last winter and this summer, and an extremely dry spring.

In November, a succession of Atlantic weather systems led to multiple flooding and surface water issues across the country. Although South Wales was often in the firing line, the monthly rain total for North Wales was 58% above the long-term average - just 1% down on the all-Wales figure.

In line with recent trends, autumn temperatures in the country were 0.35C up on the long-term average. Of the three months, November saw the most unseasonable temperatures - 0.9C above what’s usually expected, levelling at 10.4C.
