'Drunken revelry' is favoured option...

Mountainside light gets fantastic explanations

Main, the canopy of an LED street light found on the slopes of Moel Eilio in Eryri. In the far distance is a snow capped Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). Inset, an equally mystifying small boat dumped in pieces

ERYRI is renowned for its dramatic untamed landscapes, peerless views and dark skies.

So when a street light turned up on a mountain, it caused plenty of head-scratching.

Mountain leader Kelly Duffy stumbled across the bizarre find when hiking up Moel Eilio between Llanberis and Betws Garmon. Uncertain what it was, and thinking it might be important, she shared a photo on social media and appealed for answers.

Initial theories were wide of the mark. It was not, as one person suspected, belly lighting from a Boeing 747 (“probably off the wing, happens all the time”).
