TRIBUTES have been paid to a hugely respected former journalist and editor - described as a “giant of a man”.

Heartfelt tributes to former N.Wales newspaper editor

Alan Davies spent more than 40 years in the industry, starting as a junior reporter and rising to head up Trinity Mirror's (now Reach PLC) weekly newspaper operation in North Wales.

Alan had been with Thomson Regional Newspapers - which became part of Trinity Mirror in the mid-Nineties. He had long links with the company’s Cheshire operation based in Chester and was editor of the Flintshire Chronicle for years.

He moved to Llandudno Junction in 2000 to head up Trinity Mirror's weekly operation in North Wales - leading on several award-winning titles, including the North Wales Weekly News.

Alan (pictured inset), a passionate and dedicated Chester FC supporter from Flintshire, left the business in 2009 and later worked for NWN Media on titles like the Leader, covering Wrexham and Flintshire before retiring in 2017.

He passed away in recent days, aged 75.

Former colleagues heaped praise on the talented and dedicated journalist.
