HCC market update: cattle throughput dips

THE New Season Lamb (NSL) SQQ stabilised somewhat during the most recent average for the week.

The gap between this year and last narrowed significantly from being over £1 to just 87p as the NSL SQQ average fell by less than 1p to 754.7p/kg.
The average does however continue to be a notable £2 higher than the longer term 5-year average for this time of year. Numbers forward for the week were down 6% compared to the previous week, but 13% lower than the corresponding week last year.
The steer average deadweight price in England and Wales recorded a small week-on-week price increase of 0.3p. The average now stands at 639.5p/kg - £1.52 higher than year-earlier levels, and a notable £2.11 higher than the longer term 5-year average.
