Drugs courier caught on A55 told it 'might be time to consider retiring'

A DRUGS courier was caught on the A55 with almost £10,000 worth of drugs and cash.

A judge yesterday advised Steven Barton to consider retiring from his criminal career.The 53-year-old admitted a string of offences including possession of cocaine with intent to supply. A judge at Mold Crown Court jailed him for two years and ten months.

Emmalyne Downing, prosecuting, said police acting on intelligence stopped Barton's Ford Focus on the A55 on November 14. It was on the westbound carriageway at Junction 13 near Llanfairfechan.

He had been driving it with no-one else in the vehicle despite only having a provisional driving licence. Officers found a ball of cocaine weighing 104 grams with a potential street value of £8,320, a separate wrap of cocaine worth £160, 22g of cannabis worth up to £220 and £270 in cash.
