Dressing down was needed for Koepka

GOLF Five-time major winner Brooks Koepka has revealed how a pre-tournament dressing down from coach Pete Cowen was the shock he needed to drag him out of a slump.

The American, who plays on the LIV Golf tour, came into the US Open off the back of his first consecutive missed cuts at majors and admits he was not in a good frame of mind.

Blunt Yorkshireman Cowen took him to task in a 45-minute rollicking which appeared so severe Koepka’s fellow professional Justin Thomas had to check on his wellbeing afterwards.

But it had the desired effect as Koepka shot a two-under 68 to sit third after the first round, just two off the lead held by JJ Spaun at Oakmont.
