Dramatic new footage shows night rescue of climbers stuck on sea cliffs
Daily Post
|November 29, 2025
TWO climbers trapped on a cliff high above the sea on Anglesey were rescued thanks to a dramatic operation in the dark involving a search and rescue helicopter.
The men had been ascending sheer rocks, when an unexpected problem with their kit left one dangling in the air and the other marooned on a ledge.
Now footage of the dramatic rescue, which happened on Saturday, October 18 this year, has been released, showing rescuers in action bringing them to safety.
A HM Costaguard statement said: “As dusk fell, they called 999 and asked for the Coastguard, prompting a rapid response organised by the nearby Holyhead Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.
“An HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter illuminated the scene, while Coastguard Rescue Officers from Moelfre and Holyhead carefully descended the cliffs to reach the two men. RNLI lifeboats from Trearddur Bay and Holyhead stood by ready to support from the sea in case the casualties needed to be winched down.”
