Bodyboarder caught in rip current drama

COASTGUARDS ALERTED TO INCIDENT OFF BEACH AT ANGLESEY

COASTGUARDS scrambled into action when a bodyboarder got into difficulty off an Anglesey beach. It later emerged they'd been caught in a rip current, a major cause of accidental drowning in the UK.

Although the bodyboarder eventually made it back to the shore, they were in an "evident state of shock" and had to be watched over by the Rhosneigr Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) for around an hour.

The drama unfolded on Rhosneigr's main beach at 12.24pm on Thursday, May 29. Coastguard officers were initially alerted by the local beach warden, who kept visual contact with the casualty while RNLI Trearddur Bay lifeboat was launched.
