Debate grows over right to disband the PKTT

AS THE debate continues to heat up regarding the suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu's authority to disband the Political Killing Task Team (PKTT), former Police Minister Nathi Nhleko has weighed in.
Nhleko firmly stated that only the National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola, holds the power to make such decisions, emphasising that any action taken by Mchunu in this regard is both illegal and unjustified.
The PKTT, established in 2018 by President Cyril Ramaphosa, aimed to investigate politically motivated murders in KwaZulu-Natal.
However, its scope has expanded to include operations in other provinces, where it has revealed unsettling connections between drug cartels, politicians, police, and prosecutors.
