Review of carer overpayments damns system
THOUSANDS of unpaid carers landed with huge debts due to government failings could have overpayments cancelled or repaid after a damning review.
Yesterday, ministers pledged to reassess all cases in the scandal which saw people slapped with repayments when exceeding income limits for carer's allowance.
A report published yesterday found flawed guidance was issued.
Overpayments from 2015 to 2025 left hundreds of thousands of people racking up debts - sometimes more than £20,000.
