Shackleton knew ship's hull too ropy for Antarctic

SIR Ernest Shackleton knew of his ship’s structural weakness even before he set off for Antarctica, research suggests.
The Irish-born explorer and 27 other men sailed for the Antarctic in 1914.
But Endurance became trapped in pack ice in 1915, was crushed by it and sank in November that year.
