Saints on hunt after Wellens axe

ST HELENS are on the hunt for a new head coach after axing Paul Wellens.

Wellens had three seasons in charge and has spent the last 28 years at the club as player and coach.

He was told his contract would not be renewed following their playoff semifinal defeat to Hull KR.

Chairman Eamonn McManus said: “It has been the most difficult decision to make, but we have now decided to move in a new direction and to appoint a new head coach.
