WHY would anyone object to plans to help young people get into the job market? Those who have been out of a job or education for 18 months will now be offered a guaranteed paid work placement.

This will have a huge impact on youngsters who have fallen into the benefits trap and feel there is no future for them. There are too many who have got stuck in a rut and live relatively well off the system. This is not good for mental health and no good for the country.

Rachel Reeves made an impassioned speech at Labour's annual conference outlining their plans. Young people have to understand the benefits of working and give them goals and a future to work towards.

Paul Seyward. East London

This is the Labour party that we voted for. Decisive and impactful policies that will make a real difference to people's lives. For too long we have see the eradication of values and drive in young people.

There have been many, many schemes to try and get youngsters into work but nothing has changed. After hearing how the government wants a good future for young people, that has to be a good start.
