Siobhan McNally eats at the posh restaurant where David celebrated 50th
-
It was David Beckham's big weekend as he celebrated his 50th birthday.
And he chose a very swanky London restaurant to take his nearest and dearest to for his final bash.
The former footballer had already celebrated with a black tie pre-birthday party in Miami and a family gathering at his £10million home in the Cotswolds.
And the celebrations continued at Central London restaurant Core by Clare Smyth, where he hired out the entire 55-seat fine dining space for his famous family and their A-list friends.
To find out what the rest of us were missing, I went along to the ex-England captain's favourite foodie haunt and got a taste of the special chef-designed gourmet dishes his guests were served. But despite an eye-watering price tag, I left feeling peckish.
Beckham's Instagram E account is mostly pictures of his biggest fan - himself - but a year ago he turned food blogger when he posted pictures of his lobster dinner at Core, praising the "amazing team" and Northern Irish owner chef Clare.
The first British woman to win a coveted three Michelin stars, she used to work at Gordon Ramsay's Hospital Road establishment, which became renowned for impossibly long lists of ingredients in dishes which turned up as reductions and foams.
I once asked one of the waiters where the partridge I had ordered was, and he pointed to the smear on my plate.
