Next enjoyed takings boost

FASHION giant Next has hailed bumper Christmas sales but experts warned of a dismal December for other store chains.

Next yesterday upped its annual profit target to more than £1.1billion following a near 6% rise in takings over the nine weeks to December 27.

The clothing and home-wares heavyweight is often seen as a bellwether for the wider retail sector.
