MP Menzies to step down but get paid until election

MARK Menzies last night announced he will not stand at the election, after fraud and misconduct allegations over the misuse of campaign funds.

It is claimed the Tory MP used donated funds to pay off "bad people" after a dramatic 3.15am phone call to a former campaign manager saying he needed £5,000 as a matter of "life and death".

He gave up the Tory whip last week but will continue to draw his MP's salary until the election.
