Man cleared of Dando murder charged with 1987 rape of girl, 14

THE man wrongly convicted of murdering BBC star Jill Dando has been charged with raping a 14-year-old girl 38 years ago.

Barry George, 65, is due to appear in court next month on one count of rape and two of indecent assault.

Mr George spent eight years in jail for the 1999 shooting of Ms Dando, 37, before being freed when he was acquitted after a retrial.

It is alleged the girl in question, now in her 50s, was attacked on two occasions between September 6 and 12, 1987, in West London.
