KEIR Starmer promised to make Viadimir Putin pay yesterday after the Russian tyrant swerved peace talks with Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters in Albania, the Prime Minister said: “What we saw yesterday and overnight is yet more evidence that Putin is not serious about peace. He's been dragging his heels. It’s really important, therefore, that we have absolute unity with our allies.”

Addressing dozens of heads of state from across Europe, the PM said the West, including the US, must continue to push for an unconditional ceasefire. Speaking at the European Political Community summit in Tirana, Mr Starmer added: “In issuing that ultimatum, we must be prepared to follow through, because if Russia won't come to the negotiating table, Putin must pay the price.”
