Emily Beecham shares the lighter moments of playing Harold's wife Edith in the gritty historical epic

The Pursuit Of Love actress Emily Beecham took on a tricky task when she agreed to play Harold's wife, Edith, as there is very little historical information about the woman who was known as Edith Swan Neck and Edith the Fair.

"The information was a bit limited and contradictory," says Emily. "Who Edith was to Harold was what I had to figure out. Her marriage to Harold wasn't recognised by the church because they were married in the Danish style, which put her in a very vulnerable position. Coupled with Harold's hungry ambition, I think it made for the turbulent drama that we all like on our screens but not in our real life!"
