AS anniversaries go, it wasn't the perfect present but the verbal hug he received from one of his players was cause enough for celebration for Ruben Amorim.
A year ago on Saturday, the Portuguese was announced as the new Manchester United manager, succeeding Erik ten Hag at a club who thought they had reached the bottom.
The United head coach wanted to take on his new role at the end of the 2024-25 season but the club were insistent. It was either November or never Amorim chose to jump on board.
Beaming in front of the packed press conference room, Amorim sent out a positive message as he looked to bring the current squad on the journey with him.
"I am a little bit of a dreamer and I believe in myself," he said back then.
"I also believe in the club as I think we have the same idea, the same mindset, so that can help.
"But I truly believe in the players also, I know that you guys don't believe a lot in these players, but I believe a lot and I think we have room to improve."
