Dembele strikes early to draw PSG level and take Slot's Reds to extra time

- JOHN CROSS

GAUL TO PLAY FOR

ON A crazy, deafening European night at Anfield, Liverpool were pushed to the limit.

It deserves to be remembered as a Champions League classic as the last-16 tie shredded the nerves in a pulsating game which kept everyone on the edge of their seats.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele got the all-important goal for the French champions to level the tie after Liverpool's win in the French capital last week.

It pushed it into extra-time and the reality was that either of these two teams are good enough this season to win the European Cup.

Liverpool produced a smash-and-grab win last week and yet this time all their pressure could not break down Luis Enrique's side who were so dangerous on the counter-attack.

Incredibly, Liverpool had gone through on all 39 occasions they had won the away tie but this was the ultimate test for Arne Slot's men.

In the early stages, Liverpool looked as if they might blow PSG away as they made a lightning start and the home fans rose to the occasion.
