Lake drown victim aged 13 is remembered by loved ones

- BY PHIL CARDY

THE family of a 13-year-old boy who drowned while cooling off on the hottest day of the year have left tributes at the scene. Reco Puttock, who got into difficulties at a remote reservoir on Monday, was the fifth person to die in a swimming disaster over the bank holiday weekend, four of them teenagers.

The family declined to comment publicly but left floral tributes with messages reading "RIP Reco. Miss you Millions" and "RIP Reco. You will be forever missed" at Leadbeater Dam near Halifax, West Yorks.

A local said Reco drowned despite a crowd of people paddling, swimming and picnicking on the site. It is miles from any town and has no warning signs about swimming, they said.

Nearby resident Natalie Smith, 36, said: "The first thing I knew something was wrong was when I heard the sirens.

Then the police helicopter, the fire engines, and the ambulances appeared.
