Badenoch's vow to axe stamp duty 'like Truss budget horror'

KEMI Badenoch's pledge to scrap stamp duty is a desperate measure worthy of Liz Truss, Labour says.

In a bid to enliven a lack-lustre party conference, the Tory leader vowed to abolish what she called a “bad tax” that puts a drag on the housing market.

But Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden said the Conservatives are prom ising unfunded cuts and had failed to learn from Truss's mini-budget disaster.

He said: “We've been in this movie before, with the Tories announcing tax changes they couldn't fund.

“It happened three years ago. It happened in their manifesto.
