Jail attacks soar 63% after chips are dropped from menu
JAIL batterings have gone up since chips were taken off a prison menu.
Trouble flared at one of the country's most infamous jails when problems with deep fat fryers meant fewer fries.
The bizarre trend was revealed in a report from inspectors which said violence at Wakefield Jail has soared 63% in the past year.
At the same time there were 84 complaints about the food with non-availability of chips the most common gripe.
The four wings have to take turns to enjoy a week of chips after six fryers conked out.
