'Hell on earth' for passengers as glitch closes key Heathrow tunnel

THE closure of a major road tunnel between terminals at Heathrow airport caused chaos yesterday.

One passenger described the situation as “hell on earth”, as several people missed their flights due to the delays.

Roads leading up to the airport - one of the biggest in Europe - were gridlocked due to the closure, with long tailbacks on the M4.

Many desperate passengers sprinted down dual carriageways pulling their luggage in a bid to catch flights during the busy holiday period.
