Sports Ministry medical rep's nomination rejected ahead of athletics election

The three-member Election Committee of Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) has officially rejected all three nominations submitted by Dr. Dhammika Senanayake representing the Ministry of Sports-affiliated Sports Medicine Unit—for the roles of Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Executive Committee member for the 2025-2027 term.
The SLA elections are scheduled to be held on August 18 and Dr. Senanayake’s nominations were the only ones disqualified after a review of objections submitted during the nomination period. According to the Election Committee, the rejections were made on the grounds that the nominations failed to meet the regulatory requirements outlined in the National Sports Law.
