HelpAge International CEO Visits Sri Lanka to Explore Elder Care Initiatives

HelpAge International CEO Cherian Mathews was in Sri Lanka recently as part of an impactful visit to observe efforts aimed at improving the lives of older people through inclusive, community-led initiatives.

His time in the country reaffirmed HelpAge Sri Lanka’s pivotal role in advancing elder care and social protection, highlighting the organization's commitment to improving the quality of life for the ageing population through comprehensive services and community-based support.

He was warmly received by HelpAge Sri Lanka Executive Director Dr. Harsha Bandara and accompanied by divisional heads and programme teams as he visited key projects, including the HelpAge Eye Hospital in Wellawatte, the H.P. Gooneratne Elders’ Day Care Centre in Ratmalana, the Home Care Training Unit, Programme Division operations, and a Senior Citizens’ Committee meeting in Homagama.

Mathews also held discussions with HelpAge Sri Lanka Chairman Deshabandu Tilak de Zoysa, members of the Council, and senior staff. He commended the Chairman, Council members, and the HelpAge team for their leadership and dedicated service since the organisation’s establishment in 1986.
