Sajith slams CEB for proposing tariff hike

Hits out at Govt. over unfulfilled election promises regarding electricity tariffs and IMF program

OPPOSITION Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday criticised plans to raise electricity tariffs by 11.57% at a time when millions have been displaced by Cyclone Ditwah, warning that households already under strain would face further hardship.

The proposal submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board must be reviewed and approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka. Premadasa argued, however, that proceeding with the proposal would contradict the administration's election pledges.
