'You brought shame upon your town'...two years for flag-draped rioter who attacked police van

A THUG who tried to topple a police dog van while draped in an England flag has been jailed by a judge who told him: "You brought shame upon your town."

Niven Matthewman, 19, was among hundreds of rioters who tried to burn down a hotel housing asylum seekers in Rotherham.

Draped in a St George's Cross, he was captured on video trying to push the van over during what officers called "abhorrent scenes of large-scale disorder" in the South Yorkshire town.
