ENGLAND have admitted the manner of the defeat by New Zealand has left them with questions to answer over their World Cup title defence.

A nine-wicket walloping, with more than 13 overs to spare, is as bad a start as they would have feared and it leaves the squad's aura of dominance on shaky ground.

Their opponents on Tuesday are Bangladesh, who they dismantled in a warm-up match but are also a side that have beaten England in two of the past three World Cups.

It makes for a high-stakes contest, with England confident of bouncing back and keen to show that early reports of their demise are greatly exaggerated.
