TORY MPs facing punishment for criticising the parliamentary probe into Boris Johnson yesterday hit out at the "gross overreaction" to their comments.

Nadine Dorries, Sir Jacob ReesMogg and Priti Patel were among high-profile allies of the former prime minister named in a special report by the privileges committee.

It said the Commons should consider whether their attacks were a contempt of Parliament and what further action to take.

The committee, which triggered Mr Johnson's resignation with its damning assessment of his response to partygate, issued the report following criticism that it was a "kangaroo court".
