Toon are told they can be Shear class if they finally splash the cash

ALAN SHEARER has urged Newcastle to go on a spending spree if they want to keep winning more trophies.

The former Toon striker watched in wonder this season as his home-town club won the Carabao Cup — their first domestic piece of silverware in seven decades.

Head coach Eddie Howe then guided his team to a top-five finish to secure a place in the Champions League. Now Shearer wants Newcastle’s Saudi owners to give Howe the funds he needs to make some world-class signings and establish the club among the elite of English football.

Shearer told Betfair:

“Newcastle have to go out, spend and bring in at least three or four first-team players that are not only going to challenge, but get into the first team.
