Bayeux Tapestry deal put at risk by poor state of Britain’s roads

French experts are battling to scupper tapestry loan

THAT’S one in the eye for history fans...Plans to bring the Bayeux Tapestry to the British Museum could be scuppered by potholes.

French experts claim our crumbling roads are too much of a risk for the 1,000-year-old artefact depicting the Battle of Hastings.

The fragile 230ft tapestry is due to be transported to London next year while its home in Normandy undergoes renovations.

But conservationists fear the “vibrations and shocks” could rip it apart, and are calling on judges to cancel the deal
