Surgeon spared driving ban after claiming it could be 'life threatening' for patients

A TOP surgeon caught speeding on a motorway has kept his licence after saying a ban could have "life threatening" consequences for his patients.

A camera clocked Professor Chris Peach at 89mph in his £73,000 Land Rover Discovery R-Dynamic last July.

But the £220,000-a-year consultant - who already had nine points on his licence has avoided a driving ban under "exceptional hardship" rules.

Twelve or more points normally results in a ban.

Peach, 47, told magistrates taxis were "unreliable" and it was "not viable" to employ a chauffeur.
