BURGLARIES peak in the summer with many break-ins taking place when people are at home during the day.
A quarter happen when windows and doors are left open to let in air when it is hot.
With temperatures set to soar this week, householders are warned to be on their guard against opportunist thieves.
It was thought burglars waited for people to go on holiday in the summer months before breaking into their empty home.
