Warning of more to come after gales batter UK

- By Allister Hagger

A MAN died yesterday after his tent was crushed by a falling tree branch as gale-force winds pummelled swathes of Britain.

Floral tributes were left at the scene of the tragedy in Blackpool where the man aged in his 40s was found, police said.

It is thought he had been sleeping in a small green tent in a park when the branch fell in the early hours of the morning.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "We were called at 4.55am today to Revoe Park, to a report that a tree branch had fallen on a tent and struck a man.

"The emergency services attended and found a man unresponsive. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, very sadly the man - in his 40s - was pronounced deceased at the scene.
