'She has begun throwing proper Tory red meat to voters'

Tory “red meat” to party members and the electorate, so they know exactly what she is about.

- Duncan Barkes

The Tories took an unfair rap in the last few years in government due to rising public spending, but those who criticise conveniently forget much of this borrowing helped keep the country ticking over during the pandemic. However, they must now reassure voters they can be trusted once more with the nation’s finances.

Today Sir Mel Stride will reveal a £47billion savings drive to the colossal £300billion benefits bill. This is promising stuff. But the Tories must also show how they will cut public-sector waste, while ensuring services are delivered efficiently. This means reducing the size of the state, along with slashing taxes and red tape.
