Rebels plot to make 100-day 'policy blitz'
Daily Express
|April 29, 2024
ANGRY Tory rebels have drawn up plans for a 100-day "policy blitz" in an attempt to turn around the party's fortunes including trying to oust Rishi Sunak.
The group hopes to convince colleagues to unite around Penny Mordaunt to lead the Conservatives into the general election battlefield.
A coronation for Ms Mordaunt as prime minister would be followed by a swathe of pledges to improve the Tories' chances on polling day.
Pressure is mounting on Mr Sunak ahead of what is expected to be a bruising set of local election results on Thursday.
The rebels' five-point plan includes curbing legal migration, cutting the benefits bill and offering junior doctors a 10% to 12% pay rise, boosting defence spending to 3% and toughening up sentencing.
A Tory source said: "The country has had enough of broken pledges and distant plans for change or bans they never asked for.
"It's a plan for 100 days to show the Government is taking action and cares about what matters to the British people the NHS, immigration, getting our economy going by getting people back into work quickly and making our country safer and more secure."
The rebel insider added: "No more tinkering, dithering or managerialism - these are policies that can be introduced in a few months and then go to the country for people to make a decision.
