Police and MI5 foil eight terror atrocities a year

SUELLA Braverman has revealed counterterrorism police and MI5 have foiled 39 plots over the past five years.

The Home Secretary, inset, said: "Since we last published CONTEST [counter-terrorism strategy] in 2018, we have seen nine declared terrorist attacks and 39 disrupted attacks averaging almost eight attempted attacks per year." 

According to a newly updated CONTEST report the prevented "late-stage" attacks included the targeting of public figures, events like Pride and iconic sites in London.

The nine terror incidents claimed six lives and injured 20 people, while 24 UK nationals were killed in 11 attacks overseas.
