'Old NHS ways will be axed'

Streeting pledges 'big shift' to improve cancer survival

HEALTH Secretary Wes Streeting yesterday promised a shift in the way the NHS operates to be more local in a bid to improve cancer survival rates.

Speaking at an event hosted by Macmillan Cancer Support to mark World Cancer Day he vowed to end the "top down" approach of the NHS.

He said: "What I'm doing is trying to blow a gale of fresh air through all of the old cultures, ways of working, that led us to the crisis we are trying to get ourselves out of.

"So one of the big shifts we will see in the NHS's 10-year plan is a big shift from central to regional, local and working with communities."
