No one has ever said sorry to me SOL RECALLS 'TOXIC' TRANSFER
Daily Express
|January 14, 2025
TWENTY FOUR years on, Sol Campbell knows his name will be the subject of chants from both sets of supporters in tomorrow night's north London derby.
Campbell is loved by the Arsenal fanbase, having helped the club win the Double in his first season after arriving in summer 2001, while he was also a big part of the 'Invincibles' side that lifted the Premier League title without losing a game in 2003-04.
But he continues to be hated by the Tottenham faithful, who saw their captain - at 26 and the peak of his powers - join their deadliest rivals on a free transfer.
Campbell can at last smile about it all underlined by him doing an advert for Google Pixel entitled Switch Like Sol - and he is still convinced he made the right choice.
"It was a move by a young man who wanted to win," said the former England defender, who turned 50 last September.
"I wanted to win football games, I wanted to win championships, I wanted to see how far I could push my country, to see if I could win something for my country.
"I knew my time was running out and I had to think about what was the best possible chance of winning - and joining a team which I can enhance.
