New net-zero school closed before it opens

A NEWLY built net-zero school has closed before a single pupil has entered - due to lack of demand. Waterside Primary was supposed to open last September and promised to serve 210 pupils, with 30 nursery places on offer. But the the site is now a "ghost school" after just a few parents applied for places.

It was hoped children living in the new 350-home Nottingham Waterside Trent Basin development would attend.

Deserted

But locals said most people who moved into the houses and apartments, which cost up to £500,000, were older couples and young professionals without children.

The new building, complete with playground and sports field, now lies deserted.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I can only think of a handful of families with school-age children living here so I am not surprised the school shut before it even opened.
