Campaigners blast 'insult' after six-year wait
FAMILIES of those killed in the UK's biggest sporting disaster yesterday blasted the Government for deciding not to introduce their longed-for "Hillsborough Law".
And, after a six-year wait for a decision, they branded the Charter it has created instead an "insult".
Margaret Aspinall, whose 18-year-old son James died in the 1989 football crowd crush, said it was "like giving a child a packet of crisps but when you open it, there's nothing in it".
Campaigners wanted a "legal duty of candour", compelling all public servants to tell the truth about what happens at events that go wrong.
They said the Hillsborough Charter or "code of ethics" did not do that.
Margaret said: "To me it definitely does not go far enough. We will be arguing for a Hillsborough Law, that's the most important thing." She added: "We don't want to be here campaigning still after 34 years.
