Minister vows to stop sex offenders secretly changing their names

A MINISTER will work on closing a loophole that allows sex offenders to change their name without detection.

Sarah Champion, Labour MP, has championed calls for an overhaul of the law as part of the Victims and Prisoners Bill.

An amendment calls for it to be mandatory for police and courts to tell victims about name changes in a bid to protect survivors of abuse.

Yesterday, Justice Minister Edward Argar agreed to work with Ms. Champion to try to close the loophole.

The campaigning MP said: "Relying on sex offenders to do the right thing is simply delusional.
