Book claims Royal exiles felt 'unhappy and misunderstood'

‘Meghan thought she would be the Beyonce of Britain’

PRINCE Harry's wife Meghan believed she was going to have superstar status in the UK, an explosive new book about the Royal Family has claimed.

But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ended up feeling "cornered, misunderstood, and deeply unhappy" by officialdom, claims Valentine Low's book.

In the latest instalment of a serialisation, he quotes a former Palace insider as saying: "I think Meghan thought she was going to be the Beyoncé of the UK. Being part of the Royal Family would give her that kudos.

"Whereas what she discovered was there were so many rules that were so ridiculous she couldn't even do the things that she could do as a private individual, which is tough." It comes as it emerged the Duke is trying to water down his £40million memoir.

Harry, 38, is understood to want a rewrite in a bid to avoid breaking the fragile Royal Family truce that emerged during the Queen's mourning.

King Charles's younger son fears the existing draft "might not go down too well".

He played a prominent role in events after his grandmother's death and fears the partial reconciliation it brought about could be lost.

Mr Low's book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown, makes damaging claims about Harry's wife Meghan, 41.

It claims in the run-up to the couple's exit from royal life and their move to California that they felt hemmed in by Palace protocols.
