Macron sends euro crashing with his snap elections call

THE euro plunged to a two-year low against the pound yesterday as turmoil gripped France after Emmanuel Macron called snap elections.
The president made the shock move on Sunday to dissolve the National Assembly after his centrist alliance suffered a bruising defeat in European parliamentary voting.
Mr Macron immediately offered to form a coalition of political parties to halt the rise of Marine Le Pen's far-right Rassemblement National.
But his bid was roundly rejected by the parties, including the Socialists and the Greens and the euro tumbled to 84.5p against sterling.
