LIFE IN KYIV
Daily Express
|June 24, 2025
"FIRST came the drones, then a missile around 4am, then a loud bang - I never heard anything like it in my life," said Anya, a hospital worker who lives next to the scene of the latest Russian attack on Kyiv.
Seven have been confirmed dead so far, while more bodies are suspected to be lying under tonnes of concrete and dirt.
Anya's standing on the street nearby, in an otherwise beautiful residential neighbourhood - but for the glaring sight of a four-storey block of flats that has been crushed like a shoe box. She said: "This is why people are taking their kids to safety abroad. Who can live like this?"
Stress
Ambulances and emergency vehicles crowd the tree-lined street, replete with a park and brightly coloured playground, while rescue workers dig through the rubble or sweep debris from the floors of buildings across the courtyard that were hollowed out in the blast.
In between lay heaps of people's lives - furniture, toilets, kitchens, cars.
